Gaming chair or office chair? What actually matters for 8-hour days
Gaming chair or office chair? What actually matters for 8-hour days

Race-car looks or mesh and levers — the honest answer depends on how you sit, not how it looks on stream.
- Judge a chair on four adjustments: seat depth, moving lumbar, armrest position, locking recline.
- Sit upright and type all day? Ergonomic office chair. Recline and watch? Gaming chair.
- Fabric over PU leather in warm rooms — especially in the UAE.
01What gaming chairs do well
Bucket-style chairs give a lot of recline (often 150°+), a footrest on some models, and a wide, padded seat. If you lean back for long stretches or watch content from your desk, they’re comfortable in a way most office chairs aren’t. The trade-off is fixed side bolsters, which push your shoulders forward if you sit upright and type all day.
02What ergonomic office chairs do well
Mesh backs breathe, lumbar support usually adjusts in height and depth, and seat pans slide forward and back to fit your legs. If you sit upright with your forearms on the desk for eight hours, this is typically the better shape. They rarely recline as far and almost never have a footrest.
03A ten-minute self-test
Sit exactly as you actually sit at your desk for ten minutes. If your weight is on your sit bones and your back is upright — office/ergonomic. If you’re reclined with your legs out — gaming. If it’s both, prioritise adjustable lumbar and armrests over everything else and don’t worry about the label.
04Fabric vs PU leather
PU looks sharper on camera and wipes clean; fabric breathes and lasts longer in warm rooms. If your room gets hot — and in the UAE it does — fabric wins comfortably.
